About Care Families

Care Families offer a supportive home environment where youth can thrive and learn essential life skills, aimed at reuniting them with family or preparing for independence. By pairing youth in need with caring families, we create opportunities for mutual growth and connection. If you have space in your home and heart to spare, consider joining us in supporting youth and families on their journey.

Together, we can support youth and families

Care Families commit to a flexible one-year renewable contract, tailored to fit your lifestyle. With 24/7 support, we’re here to guide you every step of the way. You’ll receive compensation for your time and space, making it easy to make a difference. If you have room in your heart and home and want to support youth in South Vancouver Island, this opportunity is for you! As a Care Family in this program, your role is to provide a supportive, non-guardianship environment focused on mentoring and providing life skills development for the youth you’re paired with. BGCSVI ensures your well-being with round-the-clock assistance, including after-hours support, for both you and the youth in your care.

Our Programs

Orchard House Full Time Attendance Program (FTAP)

BGC South Vancouver Island offers a community-based residential program as an alternative to custody.  The program is a provincial resource for male-identifying youth 12 to 18 years of age that are court-ordered to attend an FTAP. The goal of these programs is to help youth return to their family (when possible) and community and develop prosocial skills and behaviours that will decrease their involvement in the criminal justice system.

Turning Point

Turning Point is a short-term transitional housing program for youth experiencing personal safety issues. The duration of the program is typically 4-6 months. Youth work one-on-one with a Youth & Family Counsellor to set goals, connect them to resources, and develop a transition plan, of returning to the family home or accessing a Youth Agreement. Youth are required to have a day plan for Turning Point, such as going to school and/or working.

The Youth Prenatal & Parenting Program (YP3)

The Youth Prenatal & Parenting Program (YP3) helps young women (aged 16-29 years) who are pregnant or in the early months of parenting. The program helps them to improve their chances to have healthy pregnancies, develop safe, positive parenting skills and increase coping and decision-making skills. The program specifically supports vulnerable youth. By placing them in a stable Care Family suite for up to 1 year, they are supported as they learn independent living, parenting and life skills.
